being in kill lincoln let me just say.....there is no way we should be playing AFTER est. That was the promoters decision.

Either way, we are extremely psyched and honored to be playing this show.

Looking forward to this show. I've never been to Rock and Roll Hotel. Coming from the 'burbs. Recommendations on best way to get there? Driving is easiest for me but it looks like parking might be kinda sketchy?

Wow, EST is opening? I'd love to know the reasoning behind it.

As for getting there - the most convenient way is to drive if you can. Union Station is the closest metro, but you have to take a cab/shuttle over and it's just a pain in the ass. Parking isn't so bad. Since it's a Thursday night, you'll find parking pretty easily, and possibly along H St. Parking is pretty safe; I usually park on H or maybe a block in on a nearby numbered street. Check the meters and the signs to see if you're in a legit parking space. And if you're pulling your hair out trying to find parking, you can always park in the AutoZone parking lot across from the Pug. You're not supposed to but I've parked there a handful of times and haven't gotten towed (knock on wood).

est opening is stupid, but cant expect much else from that guy.

parking: like michelle said, up and down u st works best. in the autozone lot on weekdays, they dont enforce after the store closes, or if the store patrol cop leaves (keep an eye out for the mpd officer in the front of the store, the the random patrol cars in the back half of the lot).

Man, I don't want to miss this. Wish it weren't a Thursday night show.

I usually park a block behind the RNR hotel, I think it's like North or South Carolina or something...

Agreed that street parking on or just off of H Street is not too difficult around there on a Thursday night.

Very much looking forward to the show!

THIS SHOW WAS A NIGHTMARE!

I love the Slackers. I've seen them countless times in Philly, NY, and NJ and NEVER before have I encountered such a terrible crowd. NO ONE could or would dance for the Slackers set (and what was happening in the pits during EST cannot be considered skanking). It was so bad I left. I HAVE NEVER LEFT A SKA SHOW EARLY but I practically ran out of the R&R Hotel halfway through the Slackers set.

I feel betrayed by the scene you guys have here. I just moved to DC and this is the first serious show I've been to. Is it always like this? Do you hide all the true-blooded ska kida or is ska really dead in DC?

Is this real?

I feel like it's 1999 all over again.

at risk of taking these posts seriously and in attempt to start a debate, I think the bands should take responsibility for these actions and call people out. teach them the right way to dance. they may not know any better. take a cue from bands like HCS who poke fun at dancing in circles. didn't Reel Big Fish used to preach against moshing/crowd surfing and stop playing if they saw it happen? I remember Coolie Ranx used to come down into the crowd and pair up guys and girls to dance together.
maybe DJ's should play some old dancehall video footage between bands to "educate"...

just a thought. it's friday and i'm bored, discussion is welcome.

It was a sold out show. You're not going to have a ton of space for anything but the simplest dancing (unless you smell really rank).

You saw a wide variety of what dancing people could squeeze in because the Slackers draw from a broad range of people. This include many who don't otherwise listen to ska. You know, the ones who at the end of the show will refuse a ska flyer because they "hate ska". Always entertaining.

I thought that it was a great time. Definitely cool to see the club packed for a ska show. It became tough to see the band on the somewhat low stage, but I've experienced much worse.
